The role
This role is for an experienced Commercial Lawyer with 5+ years of PQE, specialising in Employment and Litigation, based in Brisbane. The position is with Ashurst Perkins Coie and focuses on providing commercial and contractual advice.
What we're looking for
5 years experience
Strong commercial law experience gained within a government legal team, in-house environment or private practice
Experience providing commercial and contractual advice across a broad range of legal matters
Demonstrated expertise in procurement, governance and contract management matters
Experience advising on infrastructure, project delivery and operational legal issues
Strong drafting, review and negotiation skills across contracts, deeds, licences, memoranda of understanding and other commercial agreements
Ability to provide practical, solutions-focused legal advice that supports business and operational objectives
Experience identifying, assessing and managing legal, commercial and governance risks
Experience supporting major projects and providing legal input on priority or time-critical matters
Ability to quickly understand unfamiliar legal and commercial subject matter and provide effective advice
Experience managing external legal service providers and coordinating legal support arrangements
Proven ability to manage a diverse portfolio of matters with competing priorities and deadlines
Experience engaging directly with senior stakeholders and providing strategic legal guidance
Excellent written communication skills, including preparing legal advice, briefing notes, executive correspondence and decision-making documents
Broad legal experience across multiple practice areas rather than a narrow specialist focus
Ability to work independently while maintaining a high standard of legal service delivery
Commercially minded with strong business acumen
Pragmatic and solutions-focused approach to legal issues
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
Strong judgment and risk assessment capability
Highly adaptable and able to quickly learn new subject matter
Confident communicating with senior executives and decision-makers
Strong negotiation and influencing skills
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Resilient and capable of performing under pressure
Strong organisational and time management skills
Ability to balance legal risk with practical and operational outcomes
Client-focused with a commitment to delivering timely and effective advice
Current Australian practising certificate
