Associate - Insurance (Statutory Classes) - Sydney

The role

HWLE Lawyers is seeking an Associate - Insurance with 3+ years of experience in their Sydney office. This role focuses on advising and defending employers and insurers in industrial common law negligence matters, including fatalities and complex liability disputes under the NSW statutory framework.

What you'll do

• Manage a varied portfolio of statutory insurance matters under the NSW workers compensation and industrial accident framework
• Prepare advice on liability, psychological injury, risk management and return-to-work strategies
• Analyse medical, psychological and regulatory material to support clear and commercially focused recommendations
• Draft high-quality correspondence, reports, submissions and briefs to counsel
• Engage directly with insurer clients, self-insureds, scheme agents and government stakeholders
• Assist with the management of high-profile or sensitive matters, including fatalities and complex liability disputes
• Develop early-intervention strategies that align with legislative requirements and client objectives
• Prepare for and attend conferences, mediations and hearings as required
• Collaborate closely with a supportive and high-performing team to deliver timely, practical outcomes
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support innovative claims-management approaches
• Provide high-quality legal advice and representation to a wide variety of clients, including insurers, self-insured, specialised insurers and regulators
• Engage in advocacy and manage complex trial and appeal litigation in the Supreme Court, District Court, and Personal Injury Commission
• Advise on best practice risk and claims management, and policy coverage issues
• Work closely with partners, junior lawyers, and external Counsel to deliver outstanding outcomes for clients
