The role
MinterEllison is seeking a Lawyer or Associate with 1-4 years of PQE to join its Complex Liabilities, Insurance & Regulation team in Sydney. This role will primarily support Partner Kemsley Brennan, focusing on insurance compliance advisory work and managing insurance disputes and litigation.
What you'll do
- Respond to front end advisory issues on insurance compliance
- Manage a range of insurance dispute matters
- Manage a caseload of insurance litigation cases in the NSW Magistrates Court and NSW Supreme Court
- Assist with other civil litigation matters
- Assist the Partner in developing and providing legal and strategic advice to insurers, private clients, and government clients on insurance and dispute issues
- Involve some solicitor advocacy
- Brief and instruct counsel on more complicated matters
What we're looking for
1-4 years' experience in private practice at a leading firm
Strong civil litigation experience
Acting for a range of insurers (government insurers, corporate self-insurers, general insurers and reinsurers), private corporate clients, and government clients
Strong client focus and a proven ability to build lasting relationships with peers, clients, and the industry
Willingness to help grow the practice and build new client relationships
Experience appearing as a solicitor advocate, instructing counsel, and attending settlement conferences
Strong technical and drafting skills
Resilience and a commitment to excellence
A collaborative approach to work
Strong attention to detail and time management skills
Good skills with the use of AI
