Senior Associate/Special Counsel - Insurance General - Melbourne at HWLE Lawyers

The role

HWLE Lawyers is seeking a Senior Associate/Special Counsel with 4+ years of PQE to join their General Insurance practice group in Melbourne. This role will focus on advising leading Australian underwriters and self-insured corporates on casualty and professional indemnity claims, including defence and coverage advice.

What you'll do

Advise and act as defence and coverage counsel on behalf of leading Australian underwriters and self-insured corporates in relation to a mix of casualty and professional indemnity claims
Manage your own file load
Delegate work tasks to junior solicitors
Handle claims in tandem with an experienced, supervising partner
Direct client access
Be genuinely involved in business development and marketing opportunities

What we're looking for

4+ years PAE

Substantial experience in General Insurance casualty and/or professional indemnity claims, including defence work and the provision of coverage advice

Ability to manage a file load autonomously, whilst delegating work tasks effectively

Excellent written skills and ability to use plain English to explain legal concepts concisely

Great interpersonal skills to be able to deal with policyholders, insurers, other parties to litigation and the courts

Full working rights in Australia

Valid practising certificate
