The role
Norton Rose Fulbright is seeking a Graduate Lawyer or Lawyer with approximately 2 years of experience to join their Public Law team in Canberra, Australia. This role will focus on litigation and advising Commonwealth Government clients on complex administrative law, regulatory, and public law matters.
What you'll do
- Advise and represent Commonwealth agencies, statutory office holders and government entities
- Assist with litigated matters in the State, Territory and Federal Courts and Tribunals
- Advise clients with respect to all aspects of legislation, including statutory interpretation, administrative law advice and decision-making
- Draft high-quality legal advice, submissions and Court and Tribunal documents
- Assist clients to respond to inquiries, such as Royal Commissions and investigations
- Advise on privacy, FOI and regulatory matters
- Participate in secondment opportunities with the firm’s key clients
What we're looking for
Up to 2 years' post-admission experience
Government or private practice experience advantageous
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A genuine interest in public law, government and litigation
Strong analytical and research skills
Strong drafting skills and developing skills in advocacy
An ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
Experience in litigation, public law or regulatory law advantageous
Willingness to apply for, and obtain, an AGSVA security clearance
