Corporate Labor Transactions Associate

The role

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld is seeking a Corporate Labor Transactions Associate with 1-7 years of experience to join their New York office. This role focuses on advising clients on complex pension issues within M&A and corporate transactions, particularly concerning defined benefit plans and related liabilities, within the Employment and M&A practice areas.

What you'll do

• Advise clients on complex pension issues arising in transactions, financings, and restructurings
• Advise on multiemployer and single-employer defined benefit pension plans
• Analyze pension liabilities, including exposure arising from participation in and withdrawal from multiemployer plans and plan terminations
• Support transactional teams in evaluating pension liabilities in diligence and deal structuring
• Develop strategies to allocate, mitigate, or eliminate pension liabilities in acquisitions, financings, and restructurings
• Address withdrawal liability disputes
• Advise on compliance with ERISA, PBGC requirements, and related regulatory frameworks
