Key requirements
Degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, biomedical engineering, systems biology, biological data sciences, biomedical informatics, structural biology, biophysics or a related discipline (advanced degree preferred) Registered to practice before the USPTO with a valid registration number and in good standing Admitted to local state bar and in good standing Strong background in engineering, computer science and/or bioinformatics, with demonstrated expertise in AI/ML for drug discovery / computational modeling of biological data, Digital therapeutics / digital health / software in medical devices, Computational pathology / image analysis / histomics, Genomics / sequence analysis / systems biology / multi-omics data integration, or Processor architecture, hardware acceleration, software systems for interfacing with computational biology
The role
Jones Day is seeking an IP Patent Prosecution Associate with 1+ years of PQE to join its IP practice in Pittsburgh/San Diego. This role will focus on patent prosecution and strategic management for clients in the bioinformatics and computational biology space, particularly those involved in AI-enabled drug discovery and digital health technologies.
What you'll do
- Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in life sciences technology and related disciplines
- Conduct freedom-to-operate, validity, and patentability analyses
- Assist in IP due diligence, portfolio management, and strategic counseling for emerging and established biopharma and technology clients
- Collaborate with attorneys to provide scientific and technical expertise in support of litigation, licensing, and other IP-related matters
- Maintain current knowledge of U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and international patent practices, procedures, and developments relevant to both scientific and high-tech areas
What we're looking for

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Superior academic background
Minimum of one (1) year of prior law firm or in-house patent prosecution experience in science and technology
Team-oriented, detail-focused, and committed to providing high-quality client service
Desire for significant responsibility and client interaction
Advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline· nice to have
