The role
Cooley is seeking a Trainee Patent Attorney in their Life Sciences practice group in London. This role is for a life sciences graduate who is interested in applying their scientific background within a legal and commercial context, with the firm providing comprehensive training for qualification as a UK and European patent attorney.
What you'll do
- Use your scientific background in a legal and commercial environment, working with innovative life sciences companies and technologies
- Work with experienced patent attorneys and other lawyers advising innovative companies, universities and investors across the life sciences sector
- Engage closely with science, analysing new technologies, identifying what makes an invention important, developing strategies for protecting it and communicating complex scientific and legal issues clearly and persuasively
What we're looking for

Ability to organise and prioritise work, manage a varied workload, adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines
Intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and developing new skills
Interest in applying scientific knowledge in a legal and commercial environment
A relevant postgraduate qualification is preferred but not essential· nice to have
Knowledge or experience of bioinformatics or computational biology would be advantageous· nice to have
