The role
This role is for an experienced Employment Lawyer with 5+ years of PQE in Sydney, Australia, to join Reach, the flexible legal resourcing platform of Ashurst Perkins Coie. The position focuses on advising clients on a broad range of employment law issues.
What you'll do
- Advise on a broad range of employment law issues including employee relations, employment litigation and investigations, employment advisory and compliance (including discrimination, privacy and safety laws), collective bargaining and IR and corporate transactions and restructurings
- Advise on disciplinary issues, termination of employment, complex staff complaints, industrial disputes, enterprise bargaining and grievance handling
- Advise on compliance with Work Health Safety laws and anti-discrimination matters
- Deal with employment regulators including the Fair Work Ombudsman and IR Commission
- Recommend updates to policies and procedures based on legislative changes and industry best practices
- Influence, negotiate and simplify complex legal matters
What we're looking for
Minimum of 5 years' experience
Specialist expertise in employment law
Familiarity with safety law
Prior experience dealing with large scale complex remediation projects and/or payroll remediation and compliance programs
Experienced in advising on compliance with Work Health Safety laws and anti-discrimination matters
Experienced dealing with employment regulators
Ability to monitor legislative changes and industry best practices
Experience managing complex employment law matters in large organisations
Confident liaising with multiple internal stakeholders and teams
Ability to manage external facing issues
Ability to hit the ground running, work autonomously and prioritise
Strong legal judgement and ability to identify key risks quickly
Confidence dealing with senior internal stakeholders and external legal advisers
Commercial acumen and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving
Proactive, responsive and solutions-focused working style
A current Australian practising certificate
