Local Government Solicitor

The role

Weightmans is seeking a Local Government Solicitor with 2+ years of experience to join its Public Sector practice in Birmingham or Leicester. This role will focus on handling complex property damage claims for local government and statutory bodies.

What you'll do

• Assist on high value and complex property damage claims
• Handle own lower value FT/MT property damage claims
• Assist on large scale disclosure exercises
• Prepare and obtain witness and expert evidence
• Meet court deadlines
• Run the day-to-day of cases
• Liaise with clients, opponents, court, witnesses
• Undertake own liability investigations
• Handle or assist on predominantly PL property damage claims involving residential and commercial properties and statutory infrastructure, including water and waste assets and the highway
• Assist senior fee earners with various tasks including general case management, legal research, drafting of witness statements, instructions to experts and counsel, reports to clients and preparation for court hearings
• Attend client meetings and court hearings
• Respond promptly and accurately to correspondence and telephone enquiries from clients and other parties, with and without supervision
• Achieve set financial and chargeable targets
• Support the team’s business development activities
