Local Government Solicitor

The role

Weightmans is seeking a Local Government Solicitor for its Public Sector practice in Birmingham or Leicester. This role is for a junior lawyer with an interest in technical disputes and litigation, focusing on high-value property damage claims for local government and statutory bodies.

What you'll do

• Handle or assist on predominantly PL property damage claims involving residential and commercial properties and statutory infrastructure, including water and waste assets and the highway
• Assist senior fee earners with various tasks including general case management, legal research, drafting of witness statements, instructions to experts and counsel, reports to clients and preparation for court hearings
• Attend client meetings and court hearings
• Respond promptly and accurately to correspondence and telephone enquiries from clients and other parties, with and without supervision
• Achieve set financial and chargeable targets
• Support the team’s business development activities
• Assist on large scale disclosure exercises
• Prepare and obtain witness and expert evidence
• Meet court deadlines
• Manage the day to day of cases
• Liaise with clients, opponents, court, witnesses
• Undertake own liability investigations
