The role

Penningtons Manches Cooper LLP is seeking an Associate with 2 years of PQE to join their Projects, Development and Construction team in London. This role focuses on non-contentious construction law, supporting the firm's prominent practice area in real estate, housing, and renewables.

What you'll do

Negotiate and draft all types of construction, development and project documentation
Help clients to prepare agreements that best reflect their interests and the appropriate sharing of risk
Advise on risks in live schemes, including on giving payment advice, advising on delays, fire stopping issues and preventing the failure of construction projects
Analyse a contract to inform a client of its rights and responsibilities and suggesting next steps
Advise on payment, challenge extensions of time requests, issue termination notices and advise on the consequences of termination and issues around insolvency
Advise on live projects to help avoid disputes and to shape commercial negotiations and deals

What we're looking for

NQ-2 years qualified

Previous experience of working within a construction team or housing practice

Mainly experience of non-contentious construction law

Experience of standard form construction contracts

Some experience of commercial and/or housing development work

Good working knowledge of the various std form contracts and appointments, including JCT, NEC and EPC forms, their standard amendments and market norms· nice to have

Willingness to take on more bespoke, complex agreements, large scale due diligence exercises and/or typical development arrangements with appropriate supervision· nice to have

Desire to know the sector and work we are involved in· nice to have
