The role
This is a 5-month full-time hybrid contract role for a seasoned financial services regulatory lawyer. The role requires a minimum of 5 years' experience and is ideal for individuals with a strong track record in private practice or in-house within large organisations, focusing on Australian financial services regulation.
What you'll do
- Assess new regulatory requirements
- Advise on the impact of regulatory requirements
- Help implement regulatory changes across legal, compliance, operations and business teams
- Prepare regulatory notifications, responses, submissions or correspondence to ASIC, APRA or other Australian regulators
- Prepare clear incident reports, breach reports, compliance notices and regulator-facing correspondence
What we're looking for
5 years' experience in financial services regulation
Australian financial services regulatory experience
Experience advising on regulatory matters affecting wholesale banking, institutional banking, global markets or capital markets activities
Strong understanding of ASIC and APRA regulatory requirements applicable to foreign banks operating in Australia
Experience advising foreign authorised deposit-taking institutions or other regulated financial institutions on Australian prudential and banking obligations
Knowledge of markets and securities regulation
Familiarity with the ASIC Market Integrity Rules, ASX Operating Rules, ASX or ASX Clear (Futures) Operating Rules and related market infrastructure requirements
Experience advising on derivatives regulation
Experience supporting regulatory change projects
Experience assisting with regulatory engagement with ASIC, APRA or other Australian regulators
Ability to monitor, interpret and assess Australian regulatory developments
Excellent understanding of Australian financial services regulation as it applies to wholesale banking and global markets
Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into practical, business-ready advice
Strong regulatory judgement
Strong drafting skills
Sound knowledge of financial services compliance and regulatory risk principles
Ability to work efficiently through a high volume of incident assessments or overflow matters
Confidence liaising with internal business teams, legal, compliance, risk and senior stakeholders
Current Australian practising certificate
