The role
This is a 3-6 month full-time hybrid role in Sydney for a seasoned financial services regulatory lawyer with a minimum of 5 years' experience. The role is for individuals with a strong track record in private practice or in-house, focusing on assessing regulatory incidents and drafting reports for regulators.
What you'll do
- Manage overflow incident assessment work during periods of increased reporting or system transition activity
- Assess regulatory incidents, compliance issues or potential breaches against applicable legal and compliance obligations
- Draft breach reports, compliance notices, regulatory notifications or incident reports for regulators such as ASIC or APRA
- Prepare clear incident reports, breach reports, compliance notices and regulator-facing correspondence
- Liaise with internal business teams, legal, compliance, risk and senior stakeholders
What we're looking for
Minimum of 5 years' experience
Strong track record from private practice or in-house roles within large organisations
Experience working in an in-house legal, compliance, risk or regulatory function, ideally within financial services
Demonstrated experience assessing regulatory incidents, compliance issues or potential breaches against applicable legal and compliance obligations
Experience drafting breach reports, compliance notices, regulatory notifications or incident reports for regulators such as ASIC or APRA
Strong understanding of financial services regulatory obligations, particularly in relation to breach reporting, incident assessment and compliance frameworks
Current Australian practising certificate
Right to live and work in Australia
Familiarity with superannuation, insurance, wealth management, investment funds or financial advice businesses would be highly advantageous· nice to have
Experience working with external or related stakeholders, such as insurance brokers, superannuation trustees, responsible entities and financial advisory businesses· nice to have
