Projects Associate Director/Legal Director

The role

Osborne Clarke seeks an experienced Projects Associate Director/Legal Director with 8+ years of PQE to join their market-leading Energy Projects team in London or Bristol. This role focuses on complex commercial and regulatory advisory mandates within the rapidly evolving energy market, particularly in renewables and storage.

What you'll do

• Advise generators, investors, developers, and other market participants on UK energy regulation, policy and market design
• Liaise with European colleagues on cross-border regulatory matters
• Provide detailed advice on licence conditions, industry codes and frameworks
• Provide detailed advice on Capacity Market rules, the CfD and new revenue support mechanisms
• Create and share knowhow on regulatory change and support client engagement with regulators and industry bodies
• Draft, negotiate and advise on grid connection and use-of-system arrangements at transmission and distribution level
• Support due diligence on grid connection issues for M&A and project finance mandates
• Structure, draft and negotiate PPAs and related offtake instruments
• Advise on novel revenue stacks and merchant opportunities for renewable and storage projects
• Support M&A and project finance transactions with specialist regulatory, grid and offtake workstreams
• Coordinate multi jurisdictional advice with local counsel and internal specialists
• Act as a trusted advisor
• Lead negotiations and manage complex workstreams efficiently
• Help supervise and develop junior lawyers and trainees
• Contribute to precedents and know how
• Produce client alerts, thought leadership and training on emerging regulatory and market issues
• Support business development, pitches and key account plans
• Manage matters to scope, budget and timelines
• Ensure compliance with internal risk, confidentiality and information security processes
• Contribute to team financial performance
