Lawyer or Senior Associate, Medical Indemnity at Lander & Rogers

The role

Lander & Rogers is seeking a Lawyer or Senior Associate to join their Health Law practice in Melbourne. This role focuses on providing legal advice and managing litigation for General Insurance clients, primarily in the area of medical indemnity.

What you'll do

Manage medical negligence litigation as part of a team including attending formal mediations and informal settlement conferences
Manage Coronial inquiries and disciplinary proceedings as against health entities and individual practitioners
Provide advice to insurers on cover, predominantly professional indemnity and medical indemnity insurance
Review medical and health records
Prepare briefs for Counsel and expert witnesses
Draft court documents, settlement deeds and Medical Panel referrals
Prepare advice including on indemnity, liability, prospects, quantum, reserves and strategy
Research and provide legal analysis
Assist with preparation and presenting on matters related to medical indemnity and health law litigation
Coach and mentor junior lawyers, graduates and seasonal clerks
Retain and build business

What we're looking for

3+ years PAE in medical or health law litigation, or a related practice area

Tertiary qualification in Law and a current Practising Certificate for relevant jurisdiction

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Effective stakeholder management abilities

Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships

Strong critical reasoning and investigative skills

Ability to think laterally

Highly organised

Able to plan and prioritise work to meet key deliverables

Proficiency in conducting presentations and meetings with groups of varying sizes

Identifies risks and complies with group risk management protocol

A willingness and ability to learn and develop new skills

Ability to resolve problems and determine when escalation is necessary

A professional, client focused and ethical approach

A resilient nature with the ability to remain calm under pressure
