Solicitor/Associate Solicitor - Employment Education

The role

Shakespeare Martineau is seeking a Solicitor/Associate Solicitor with 3-6 years of experience in employment law to join their Birmingham office. This role focuses on advising Higher Education, Further Education, Academy, and School clients on a broad range of employment law matters, encompassing both contentious and non-contentious work.

What you'll do

• Manage your own caseload of employment law matters with appropriate supervision
• Attend and lead client meetings, taking instructions and building strong working relationships
• Provide clear, practical and commercially focused employment law advice
• Draft and review employment-related documentation, including contracts, policies, settlement agreements and correspondence
• Advise on disciplinary, grievance, capability and absence management matters
• Support clients through organisational change projects, restructures and workforce issues
• Act for clients in Employment Tribunal proceedings, including preparing case documentation and witness evidence
• Liaise with and instruct counsel on more complex matters
• Deliver client training and contribute to internal knowledge-sharing initiatives
• Prepare legal updates, articles and client briefings on developments in employment law
• Work collaboratively with colleagues on larger and more complex matters
• Support business development activities, including networking events, seminars and client relationship initiatives
