Senior Risk and Compliance Lawyer at Travers Smith

The role

This is a Senior Risk and Compliance Lawyer position at Travers Smith in London, United Kingdom. The role is within the Regulatory practice area and requires at least 7+ years of PQE, acting as deputy to the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer and providing firm-wide risk and compliance advice.

What you'll do

Provide high quality best in class firmwide risk and compliance advice and support to the partnership
Act as deputy to the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer
Proactively contribute to the firm's success by actively seeking to support the firm's risk and compliance framework
Advise on legal and regulatory obligations
Anticipate the needs of legal and business service colleagues across the firm
Assist with the day-to-day management of the firms' regulatory obligations under the SRA Standards and Regulations
Provide technical pragmatic and practical advice to partners other lawyers and business service colleagues on risk and compliance matters
Advise on conflict of interest confidentiality professional conduct and client care issues
Assist with the firm's AML compliance including advice to lawyers and the file opening team in relation to new client onboarding client due diligence and matter risk assessments
Provide advice and assistance in connection with the management of the firm's insurance programme including professional indemnity cyber insurance D&O insurance and general property and business interruption
Assist in the maintenance of the firm's terms of business and dealing with individual client requests for variations or amendments
Monitor changes and developments in the regulatory landscape and assist in the preparation of firm wide updates
Deliver training to lawyers and Business Services employees on risk and compliance ethics and professional conduct topics
Assist in the management of any professional indemnity claims or other complaints made against the firm
Provide general assistance with other day to day requests to the Risk and Compliance team as needed

What we're looking for

At least 7-8 years' post qualification experience

Strong working knowledge of SRA regulation

Strong working knowledge of AML regulation

Strong technical knowledge

Ability to quickly get to grips with complex legal and factual issues

Excellent legal and commercial judgment

Ability to balance effective risk management with providing pragmatic advice that recognises the firm's business objectives

Ability to engage with Partners and Senior Management with confidence and with an assured approach

Ability to build strong relationships with colleagues and external parties

Precision integrity accuracy and high standards

Good communication skills with ability to prioritise

Comfortable providing recommendations with confidence to senior level stakeholders, even when there is ambiguity involved

Ability to work collaboratively and in a coordinated way with different areas of the firm

Ability to manage and reconcile conflicting demands and stakeholders

Excellent planning scheduling and coordination skills

Flexible team player with a 'can do' attitude

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Able to remain calm under pressure and work to tight deadlines

Discreet and diplomatic, ability to handle confidential information
