Associate - Claimant & Union at Penningtons Manches Cooper

The role

An Associate or Senior Associate with 5-8 years PQE is sought by the Employment Team at Penningtons Manches Cooper. This role will focus on claimant work, advising trade union and staff association clients on contentious employment, regulatory, and pension matters, with a base ideally in Birmingham.

What you'll do

Provide advice and assessments on the merits of potential tribunal, regulatory, pension and other claims
Manage employment tribunal and pension cases
Conduct advocacy at some preliminary employment tribunal hearings
Provide day-to-day legal advice to clients
Draft and review pleadings, submissions and legal documents
Assist other members of the team
Provide training to clients
Attend networking and marketing events

What we're looking for

SRA Qualified

5-8 years PQE

Current experience in a recognised Employment team or in-house department

In-depth knowledge of employment law

Experience of claimant work

Ability to handle a caseload of employment tribunal claims to final trial

Interest in and commitment to claimant work

Pragmatic and research-based approach

Good communication and written skills

Outstanding client care

Strong organisational skills

Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team

Solid understanding of IT platforms used for litigation, case management and marketing

Experience in regulatory and/or pension matters· nice to have

Understanding of and experience in working under the Civil Procedure Rules· nice to have

Business development experience· nice to have
