Key requirements

The role
Jones Day is seeking an IP Patent Prosecution Associate with 1+ years of experience for their practice in Boston, New York, or San Diego. This role focuses on the prosecution and strategic management of patent portfolios in the life sciences industry, involving cutting-edge technologies like gene editing and cell/gene therapies.
What you'll do
- Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in biotechnology and related disciplines
- Conduct freedom-to-operate, validity, and patentability analyses
- Assist in IP due diligence, portfolio management, and strategic counseling for emerging and established biotech clients
- Collaborate with attorneys to provide scientific expertise in support of litigation, licensing, and other IP-related matters
- Maintain current knowledge of U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and international patent practices, procedures, and developments relevant to life sciences technologies
What we're looking for
Ph.D. in biological sciences, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, immunology, or a related field (required)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear legal documents
Superior academic background
Minimum of one (1) year of prior law firm or in-house patent prosecution experience in biotechnology is strongly preferred
Highly qualified candidates with a M.S. and several years of industry research experience may be considered· nice to have

Expected Salary Range (BOS, CA and NYC): $225,000 - $495,000, depending on qualifications and experience
