The role
An Associate solicitor with 2-5 years PQE is sought for the Police & Emergency Services team in Manchester. This role involves managing a personal caseload and supporting colleagues on a broad range of civil actions defending police forces, with a focus on high-profile and complex matters.
What you'll do
- Manage and assist on both pre-litigated and litigated civil claims against police forces on behalf of insurers and public authorities
- Handle catastrophic injury and large loss claims involving police forces, insurers, and corporate clients
- Run your own fast-track and multi-track caseload while supporting senior lawyers on complex, sensitive, and high-value matters
- Develop case strategies, draft pleadings and witness statements, and prepare instructions for counsel and experts
- Attend conferences, trials, and various forms of ADR, including conducting negotiations
- Keep up to date with relevant legal and industry developments
- Support client relationship development, including participation in training and networking activities
What we're looking for
2-5 years PQE
Proven experience managing a caseload of claims involving police/public authorities and/or large loss EL/PL matters, including liability assessment
Experience within a defendant practice, ideally in police law, public authority, or large loss teams
Strong attention to detail, with a high level of accuracy
Ability to prioritise effectively and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Professional and confident communicator, able to build strong internal and external relationships
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong academic background
Defendant insurance or large loss experience· nice to have
