Key requirements
Experience in Tax law at a large law firm or specialist tax practice as a mid-level Associate through to a developing Senior Associate Experience in advisory and transactional work and/or tax controversy A specialism in direct and income tax issues, or a blend of direct and indirect tax work Regular exposure to clients and provision of advice both autonomously and as part of a team
The role
This role is for an Associate or Senior Associate in the national Tax team in Melbourne, focusing on direct and income tax advisory and disputes for major companies. The role involves working with partners and collaborating across practice groups to provide expert tax guidance and support clients through complex transactions and ATO engagements.
What you'll do
- Represent companies in tax advisory work to assist them implement their commercial objectives with expert tax guidance
- Represent companies in resolving tax disputes, including transfer pricing, through the life cycle from advice on risk, ATO engagement, alternative dispute resolution, mutual agreement procedures or litigation in court
- Provide technically sound and commercially informed advice on tax issues that are relevant to transactions and projects for clients in various sectors
- Collaborate with other practice groups to deliver seamless, cohesive and commercially optimised advice and specialist transactional support
- Work with leading members of the tax bar where opinions are required for clients or in managing disputes for clients
- Support clients through various ATO engagement, including private rulings and class rulings processes, FIRB approvals, reviews and audits and advice on strategic engagement approaches to minimise risks and resolve issues efficiently
What we're looking for
