Transport Regulatory Solicitor

The role

Weightmans is seeking a Transport Regulatory Solicitor with 2-5 years of experience to join its expanding Regulatory Department in Birmingham, Liverpool, or Leeds. This role will focus on transport regulatory matters, including operator licensing and Traffic Commissioner Public Inquiries, alongside other regulatory investigations and prosecutions.

What you'll do

• Provide health and safety advice to corporates and individuals on an ongoing basis
• Undertake training exercises for clients on health and safety topics
• Complete compliance reviews on health and safety
• Conduct internal investigations for clients following a health and safety incident / near miss
• Represent clients during external investigations by the police/ HSE/ local authority including responding to interviews under caution and s.20 requests
• Represent clients that have been prosecuted for health and safety, food safety and fire safety matters
• Advise clients on transport regulatory matters including all areas across the operator licensing regime regulated by the Office of the Traffic Commissioner
• Represent operators in PACE interviews with DVSA or other regulators
• Respond to DVSA investigations or desk-based assessments
• Undertake training exercises for operators
• Undertake Mock Public Inquiries for clients
• Undertake compliance reviews for clients
• Represent operators at hearings before the Traffic Commissioners including Preliminary Hearings, Public Inquiries and Senior Team Leader Meetings
• Manage own caseload of Internal Investigations, Health & Safety Investigations and Prosecutions, White Collar Crime Investigations and Prosecutions and Transport Regulatory matters
