Associate Legal Counsel, Global Investment Bank

The role

We're looking for the first legal counsel at a global investment bank opening in Perth. The bank runs capital markets operations here across M&A, ECM, research, and equities sales and trading, and you'll look after legal and corporate governance for its new Australian business. You'll advise a capital markets business working in a fast-moving trading and regulatory environment, alongside the bank's teams overseas. It's an ideal role for someone with 3-6 years of corporate law experience who is ready to step out of practice into their first in-house role.

What you'll do

• Supporting ECM and investment banking mandates for corporate clients, especially in metals and mining
• Negotiating terms of business, vendor and supplier contracts, and other legal matters
• Acting as company secretary and running corporate governance in line with the bank's subsidiary guidelines, supported by the London team
• Working with the global legal team and the business on capital markets initiatives and policies
• Being the go-to expert on the Corporations Act, ASIC and ASX rules, and other relevant law and regulation
• Shaping how legal advice is given to the business, and recommending ways to minimise legal issues
• Collaborating with research, sales and trading, investment banking, onboarding, legal and compliance colleagues, and external counsel
• Managing external counsel, consultants and vendors
• Helping to manage potential litigation, regulatory matters and escalated customer claims
