Litigation Associate – Regina

The role

MLT Aikins is seeking a Litigation Associate with 1-3 years of experience to join their Regina office. This role focuses on municipal law within the advocacy group, advising local authorities and public bodies on various legal issues and representing them in litigation.

What you'll do

• Advise municipal councils, administrators and staff on governance, statutory authority, council procedure, conflicts of interest and codes of conduct
• Draft and review bylaws, policies, resolutions and municipal agreements, including servicing, development and inter-municipal agreements
• Advise on planning, zoning, subdivision and development matters, as well as property assessment and taxation
• Represent municipalities in civil litigation, including negligence, contract, construction and expropriation claims
• Appear in judicial reviews, appeals and hearings before administrative tribunals and boards including the Saskatchewan Municipal Board
• Assist with bylaw enforcement and prosecutions
• Advise on access to information and protection of privacy, elections, procurement and employment matters affecting local governments
• Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, opinions, pleadings and written submissions
