Senior Associate - Education

The role

Penningtons Manches Cooper is seeking a Senior Associate with 6+ years of PQE to join their Litigation and Regulatory practice in Oxford, Birmingham, or Cambridge. This role focuses on providing strategic legal advice to higher education institutions on governance, student, regulatory, and data protection matters.

What you'll do

• Support institutions in navigating regulatory and governance obligations affecting the education sector
• Advise international pathway providers on their arrangements with universities and registration with the Office for Students
• Handle safeguarding challenges and related litigation
• Undertake data protection work together with freedom of Information, data breaches and data sharing
• Advise on Freedom of Speech/No platforming and related litigation
• Handle litigation from the student as a consumer
• Provide regulatory advice on mergers and acquisitions of clients in the education sector including with potential insolvencies and stress purchases
• Advise educational institutions and charities on safeguarding obligations and investigations
• Support leadership teams in responding to historic and current safeguarding concerns involving staff, students, and volunteers
• Contribute to sector thought leadership and client engagement initiatives
