The role
McLennan Ross is seeking a Labour and Employment Lawyer with 0-4 years of PQE to join its established and growing practice in Yellowknife, Canada. This role offers the opportunity to gain significant experience and take on responsibilities early in your career, working alongside experienced partners in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
What you'll do
- Serve as Chief negotiator on behalf of employers in collective bargaining
- Serve as counsel on grievance arbitration hearings
- Serve as counsel on human rights mediations, hearings, and appeals
- Serve as counsel on labour board hearings
- Serve as counsel on employment standards appeals
- Serve as counsel on administrative tribunal hearings
- Serve as counsel on judicial reviews from all hearings
- Conduct harassment and other workplace investigations
- Provide proactive advice to employers on a wide variety of industries throughout the North
What we're looking for
Successful completion of Bachelor of Laws Degree/Juris Doctor
0-4 years’ experience in labour/employment law
Ability to work in cross cultural environments
Ability to work well independently with confidence under time constraints
Excellent verbal, negotiating and written communication skills
Ability to articulate legal information clearly and practically to clients
Highly motivated, self-directed and able to juggle multiple priorities efficiently
Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills
Ability and willingness to work in communities throughout Canada’s North
Eligible for admission into the Law Society of Northwest Territories and the Law Society of Nunavut
