Commodity Tax Associate at Thorsteinssons

The role

Thorsteinssons is seeking a Commodity Tax Associate with 1-4 years of experience for their Toronto office. This role will focus on Canadian sales tax and real estate tax matters within the firm's tax practice.

What you'll do

Assist and support senior counsel in corporate-commercial commodity tax matters
Advise on business transfers and corporate reorganizations from a commodity tax perspective
Prepare legal opinions and compliance reviews
Assist with GST/HST and Provincial audits and appeals
Conduct detailed review and analysis of commodity tax issues
Maintain current knowledge of tax legislation, regulatory changes, and industry best practices
Provide impeccable client service and complete research and memoranda to form legal opinions that assist our clients in making business decisions
Handle other routine tax matters

What we're looking for

1 to 4 years’ post-call experience

Tax experience

Corporate law experience

Litigation experience

Academic excellence

Superb understanding of commercial transactions from a client’s perspective

Ability to remain productive while demonstrating superior analytical and problem-solving skills within a time-sensitive and fast-paced environment

Strong research, verbal and written communication skills

Excellent interpersonal skills required for effective communication with clients, other lawyers and staff

Ability to exercise strong initiative and judgment
