Lawyer, Disputes and Investigations at Gilbert + Tobin

The role

Gilbert + Tobin is seeking a Lawyer, Disputes and Investigations with 3-5 years of PQE for their Melbourne litigation practice. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-stakes commercial disputes, class actions, and regulatory matters alongside experienced partners.

What you'll do

Take ownership of significant aspects of a case
Work directly with partners, clients and leading counsel
Contribute to litigation strategy
See matters through from early stages to hearing
Develop case strategy alongside partners
Prepare key evidence, pleadings and submissions
Work directly with senior client stakeholders and counsel
Manage important workstreams within major proceedings
Prepare for and be closely involved in hearings and trials
Assist with the recently announced Royal Commission

What we're looking for

Approximately three to five years' post admission experience

Strong litigation experience, ideally across complex commercial disputes, class actions, regulatory litigation or a combination of these areas

Demonstrated court experience, including preparing pleadings and evidence, briefing counsel and preparing matters for hearing

Excellent analytical, legal reasoning and drafting skills

Ability to get across complex factual, legal and commercial issues and identify what really matters

Sound commercial judgement and ability to understand broader client objectives

Confidence building relationships with clients, counsel and colleagues

Ability to take ownership of matters and manage competing priorities

Collaborative approach and interest in supporting and developing junior lawyers
