Associate at Farrer & Co

The role

Farrer & Co is seeking an Associate with 2-5 years of PQE to join its Charities and Community team in London. This role focuses on charity law, advising clients on structuring, governance, tax, and fundraising regulations.

What you'll do

Work on a full range of legal matters for charity and institutional clients
Get involved in a range of business development initiatives
Develop a profile amongst peers and in the wider sector
Deliver verbal and written presentations in various media on technical and topical subjects
Deliver training to clients and contacts
Progress transactions and provide proactive support to partners and senior colleagues
Provide clear direction when delegating to more junior fee earners

What we're looking for

2-5 years of PQE

Strong academic background

Some experience in the field of charity law

Experience with charity structuring and restructuring

Experience with governance and constitutional matters

Experience with trading and relationships with non-charitable subsidiaries

Experience with charity tax and fundraising regulation

Good working knowledge in the fields of corporate, commercial and trust law

Excellent communication skills

Ability to deliver tailored, client-centred advice

Ability to display confidence, autonomy and ownership in carrying out small- to medium-sized matters

Ability to be relied on in assisting more senior fee earners on medium- to large-sized matters

Organisational skills to progress transactions and provide proactive support

Degree: 2.1 or equivalent

Commitment, flexibility and preparedness to work beyond normal office hours

Ability to persuade, present and write effectively

Self-starting approach to tasks and projects

Ability to work on own initiative

Commercial awareness

Willingness and ability to develop the team’s practice

Diligent team member aligned with firm values

An “in this together” approach

Experience including at least some of the following: charity structuring and restructuring (including formation, incorporation, mergers and group arrangements), governance and constitutional matters, trading and relationships with non-charitable subsidiaries, charity tax and fundraising regulation (including the regime for professional fundraisers and commercial participators)· nice to have
