Legal Counsel, Tech and Data

The role

Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer is seeking a Legal Counsel, Tech and Data with 3+ years of experience to join their Technology practice in London. This role will focus on advising internally on data and technology legal issues, developing policies, and supporting the firm's AI Governance team.

What you'll do

• Advise internally on legal issues as they relate to data and technology, including at pace
• Determine how data is captured and utilised across the firm and manage complexities of where it should be located and stored
• Develop and implement internal policies and processes as they relate to data issues, such as retention and deletion
• Prepare and deliver clear guidance, tools and training as to use, location, access and security of data
• Help to drive compliance
• Advise on the laws and professional obligations surrounding the collection, use, maintenance, location and retention of data
• Advise the practice groups and Business Services teams and Senior Leaders in relation to decisions as required regarding data related issues
• Identify challenges and opportunities regarding data related issues
• Work with the firm’s AI Governance team to develop standards, frameworks and processes for the use, management, and retention of data in AI systems
