Digital, Data, IP and Technology Associate (1-5 PQE) at A&O Shearman

The role

A&O Shearman is seeking a Digital, Data, IP and Technology Associate with 1-5 PQE to join their IP practice in Dubai. This role will focus on complex commercial contracts, particularly those involving IP, technology, and data-rich transactions, as well as advising on UAE data protection and privacy laws.

What you'll do

Drafting, reviewing, amending and negotiating DDIT agreements
Providing strategic advice on everything that falls within the parameters of what the DDIT team advise on
Managing client expectations and project delivery appropriately
Business development - development of personal plan, assistance with and implementation of business development campaign
Legal research

What we're looking for

1-5 PQE qualified lawyer

Solid knowledge and understanding of commercial/DDIT specific contracts

Experience of drafting, analysing and negotiating commercial law/DDIT specific contracts, such as service agreements, software licence/SaaS agreements, IP licence and development agreements

Strong technical knowledge/experience across non-contentious IP transactions and advice

Strong technical knowledge/experience across M&A support (including due diligence, IP licensing, transitional services, separation and integration)

Strong technical knowledge/experience across Digital infra/Telecoms transactions and advice

Strong technical knowledge/experience across data protection and privacy advice

Strong technical knowledge/experience across R&D, collaboration and franchise agreements

Strong technical knowledge/experience across outsourcing

Intellectual curiosity and versatility

Self-starter with the desire and ability continuously to acquire, develop and share knowledge

Detail-focused and self-motivated approach

Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines

Excellent client relationship skills

Sound experience of operating at associate level within a complex international organisation

Strong commercial/business acumen with the ability to deliver creative and pragmatic solutions and advice

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface at all levels and particularly to win the respect of the partner and fee-earner community, building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders

Collaborative team player with the ability to develop and work in a fast paced, intellectually rigorous environment

A person of sound judgment, able to establish a high level of credibility

Some data privacy experience· nice to have
