The role
Ropes & Gray is seeking a mid-level Associate with 3-6 years of experience to join their Technology practice group in Washington D.C. This role focuses on advising clients on data privacy and cybersecurity laws, incident response, and data protection legal risks.
What you'll do
- Advise clients on compliance with data protection and privacy laws
- Draft and review privacy policies, data processing agreements, and cybersecurity protocols
- Analyze and interpret regulations governing data privacy and cybersecurity
- Respond to data breaches and coordinate incident response activities
- Conduct risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies for data security
- Represent clients in data litigation, regulatory investigations and enforcement actions
- Monitor developments in data privacy and cybersecurity laws
- Provide training and guidance on privacy and cybersecurity best practices to junior associates
- Collaborate with internal teams to implement data protection measures
What we're looking for

Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience interpreting and applying privacy regulations such as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), and other global privacy frameworks
Experience in data litigation, including discovery, motion practice and hearing, and managing data breach investigations
Proficient in using artificial intelligence technologies responsibly and ethically, include the ability to assess appropriate use cases, protect confidentiality, verify outputs and apply independent legal judgment
Strong skills in legal writing, verbal communication, and performing detailed analyses
Ability to effectively manage priorities and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
