The role
MinterEllison is seeking a Special Counsel with 5+ years of PQE to join its statutory compensation management team in Melbourne. This role focuses on providing strategic advice and representation in matters involving Victorian government bodies like WorkSafe Victoria and the Transport Accident Commission.
What you'll do
- Provide strategic advice and representation across matters before the Magistrates' Court of Victoria, the County Court of Victoria and the Supreme Court of Victoria
- Take ownership of your matters and client relationships
- Mentor junior lawyers
- Deliver top-tier, pragmatic, government-focused advice that reflects a deep understanding of your clients' needs
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day management of a litigation caseload
What we're looking for
At least 5 years’ post‑admission and technical experience in statutory compensation law
Knowledge of the Accident Compensation Act
Knowledge of the Work Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act
Knowledge of the Transport Accident Act 1986
Strong client relationship skills
Strong file management skills
Demonstrated experience building and maintaining trusted client relationships
Ability to work autonomously while thriving in a team‑based, collaborative environment
Experience acting for WorkSafe and TAC· nice to have
Experience in adjacent practice areas — including insurance, personal injuries litigation and HR/IR· nice to have
